We don't have much space here in New York City, and to make matters worse my house dates back to the 1920's and doesn't have any closets. Yes, you read that right; my house doesn't have any closets.
(Back when it was built you would be taxed according to how many rooms you had, and a room was defined as being a space you could turn around in. You had enough room to turn around in a closet, so they would be taxed as a room. That is why many houses and tenements here either have no closets or six inch deep ones you can't even store a wire hanger in. But, I digress.)
So, I have a small dresser and some ugly plastic storage containers. The shoes barely fit in the containers and end up looking a little squished. I'm tired of this, what are the best storage options for really really tiny spaces?
I have a home office that I don't use much - so I basically turned the whole room into my closet. I got a couple extra hanging racks and an extra dresser. I've decided from now on, I'm just going to get an extra bedroom and make that my walk-in closet. LOL
My dad's wife one time seriously considered removing her stove (in her kitchen) to put in another closet. She never cooked, but had closets of gowns.

I put my clothes in the closets and put my shoes in shoe boxes and then pile them up. You can pack your things that not right for the season in big bags and put that bag under your table or bed, and you can also put your shoes in boxes and pile them, that will save you some spaces, and keep your thing clean. You can find them easily.

Because my closets are pretty small I only have two seasons in there at a time. I have my clothes seperated by spring/summer then fall/winter and just switch them when the weather changes.
Oh, and I recently became a member of MyCloset.com. You can upload pics of your warbrobe and then catagorize them. I often forget what I own but since I have created my online closet I have felt more organized and it made my switch from the spring/summer seasons to the fall/winter a lot easier this year!
Good luck!

My closet is organized by dress shirts, pants, blazers, suits by colour (from light to dark. Shelf above hangers houses my jeans, khakis, polo's, T's etc. Shoe shelving on both sides of the closet floor with tan, camel, brown on one side, black, greys etc. on the other, all with shoe trees from form.

I wish I had a spare room for a closet. That would be amazing. Good thing I have 2 closets in my room to hold all my stuff, otherwise I don't know what I would do.

I think we should buy the shoes (http://www.goods-union.com/)which best suit you, that you can buy less shoes.also the clothes. then store (http://www.sellladybag.com/)will be easier. A pair shoes can suit different occasions.

well... how many shoes do you have? I got 3 pairs and they're ok sleeping in the porch. I don't store so much shoes/clothes. If I found an old looking clothes/shoe, I do a garage sale and there they go.... :D

in a rather large tower-esque wardrobe in my spare bedroom..
I should probably go to the charity shop more often, as I am sure many of us on the forum probably should.
Why is it so hard giving away clothes you never wear anymore?

As you have a storage problem, you should not keep big collection of clothes, keep reselling old and which you don't wear.
Put out the dresses which you are currently wearing according to season and set them properly in closet (or what ever small you have for storage purpose.) (good if you can use hanger for that).
For other dresses clean and fold them properly and fix them in big bag(like a huge travel bag)

Why won't you just hang your closet instead of making it like a wall closet that reaches the floor and takes out your spaces.. hang it like how it looks like in the kitchen.

Well Although i am new to this forum yet i liked this topic a lot and wanted to post in it. I do not have a very big home or place to live in but one thing i must say that it is built extremely purposefully. We have many drawers in rooms and to capitalize more space we have these drawers extended to our washrooms as well. Therefore It is very easy for us to manage and clothes and shoes with much Fuss. I really consider my self lucky to have so much space for me. :p

I have two wardrobes full of clothes that are fit to bursting!
I try to maximise space by putting things that won't crease so easy in my chest of drawers, I also have big plastic storage containers under my bed for things like bags and shoes to help keep them out of the way.

I keep my clothes in the cupboard & keep my shoes in shoe boxes & then pile them self. we should any bag & thing .You can keep some spaces, & keep your thing clean. We can search easily.I don’t purchase clothes & shoes often. When I do, however, I want to ensure that my hard-earned money does not go to waste, so I take care of my clothes and accessories.

I use to save my shoe and cloths in a cupboard which is in my room. I hang my suits over there and there is drawer under the hanger where i use to keep my shoes. well, I don't have such short place in my cabinet that's why i keep my perfumes, Body sprays, and after shave in a same cupboard.

I have a cupboard for well about everything but dresses. For my dresses I have a clothes rack. This summer I'll be finally getting a walk in closet and I'm already excited and bursting with ideas. :)
