My home got broken into and our safe was hacked. As a result my wife has no jewelry left and I have to begin the long costly process of rebuilding her stash.

What do I do and what do I buy? What's in- diamonds, colored stones? White gold/Platinum or yellow?

Any advice that comes with links will be appreciated!

Stay away from regular gold unless she has darker skin. White Gold has been a big trend in the last 4 years and does not seem to be going away. Platinum is always in, but expensive as hell. I recommend cocktail rings for fingers and for earrings slim long drops always look lovely. Unless she is over 60 big, bulky earrings are a no-no unless they are hoops.
Also try some simple pieces too. She'll need everyday goodies she can wear without worrying about losing them.

Hey, good suggestion. I never thought of gold is not quite match with fair skin! As I saw a lot of girls especially in Eastern world, like China, Taiwan and HK.

I have asian dark brown skin- I never like gold accessories, they make me appear darker. I love pearl earrings, it helps light up my face.

For Vday my boyfriend got me a white gold chain with and emerald pendant. You would never know its gold unless I said something. Looks just like silver. More class though.

I do like the Platinum and diamond, they look nice. HSN is offering a coupon (http://www.dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=82332&ru=282) on jewelrys, if you intend to buy something you can have a look there.

Pearls always come in style and fashion.

The pearl market has been changing so much in the last few years. There are now strands of Chinese freshwater pearls that are very attractive and even rival some of the quality akoya pearls. If your budget is flexible, consider south seas pearls as these (IMHO) are some of the most drop-dead gorgeous gems that anyone could own.

As far as finer gemstone/diamond jewelry - get platinum if you can afford it, and if she does not prefer gold as some women do. (Hopefully you were insured?) If your wife is into trendy jewelry as well as finer gemstone jewelry - chunky, earthy jewelry is very hot. Also chunk jewelry with chains is a trend that will remain for at least the next two seasons. Yes - pearls are always in style. Color is very big now, and will be in the fall - reds are huge - as are aqua blues. You'll see deeper of the same colors this fall. Good luck - sorry for your loss!

I think diamonds and other gemstone jewelry are the best to buy. There are 2 reasons to it. One is that they are the most trendy thing now and will always be. The second is that they are a good means of investment. With the certification of diamonds and gemstones, you get almost the whole of the amount back depending on the grade of the stone you buy. What do you people think?

Jewelry as an investment ... ? This is fine for some people, and some jewelry. Some jewelry is just fun - big and bright - depends on your taste and budget. I mix it up to be honest!

Personally I like diamonds and pearl.
