what type of foundation is suitable for oily skin and also gals with dark skin? Can oily skin be prevented and is it hereditary? And are there certain make-up that im have to avoid?
Stick with an oil free foundation, try a water based one. Also find a good coverage powder to disguise shine and help soak up excess oil.

Boots - 17 Oil Control Mattifying foundation is amazing
I have really oily skin but this is great, I put a few light layers on and it lasts for ages.
It doesnt make my skin look unnaturally matte AND they have a powder to go with it, just in case.
and another thing ive found is if your going out but dont want/have enough time for make-up just dust some talcum powder over your face with a brush, it doesnt change the colour and works like a normal powder.
Weird but it works. :D

i think there are some factors why your skin is oily.
first is food...
don't eat too much fatty foods...eat plenty fresh fruits and
vegetables...drink water...
second:
sleep cycle,... as much as possible, sleep 6-8hrs.
third;
environment:(smoke, dirty air)in order to avoid this, wash your face before you sleep..apply face powder if needed(any face powder)..
try to use oil free facial foam.. and with make up.. I use liquid gel foundation with face powder after... don't use a moisturizer anymore if your face is oily already..

Can oily skin be prevented and is it hereditary?
Yes it is.. Maybe your parents passed on ‘the oily skin gene’ to you and that is just the way it is. But you don’t have to resign your self to having oily skin. The right skin care regime will help to balance the pH of your skin and help you achieve a more ‘normal’ skin type. Follow like what giga_girl mentioned above..

Go to a make up counter and ask them to test your skin to find out what type of skin you have. Obviously you say its oily, but they can then recommend which type of foundations you can use.
TAKE NOTE*** don't fall into the trap of buying the products that the sales assistant is flogging to u.
I could recommend clinique or shiseido to do your skin testing :)
i use clinique, their 3 step routine is really good and i've been using it for 4 years and is also very good for young skin.

Cleanse
Your skin type is generally strong and may produce excess oil. Natural cellular exfoliation in follicle walls may be impeded. A stronger cleanser can be tolerated. Gel based cleansers are effective for oily skins. Added salicylic acid ( a beta hydroxy acid) helps reduce oil and blemishes. Tea tree oil can act as an antimicrobial against acne.
Treatment
Cleansing bars may have added ingredients to help heal and reduce oil (sulfur, hemlock or pine oil). Cleanse once to remove makeup, then lather a second time for cutting oil.
Exfoliate
This is a must do step for oily skins, but extra care must be taken with active pustules and lesions. Scrubbing grains can further irritate inflamed skin. Alcohol will dry oil but may cause a backlash of oil production later. A two step approach is sometimes helpful-try daily treatment of a form of topical vitamin A (in prescription or non prescription forms) plus glycolic. These two ingredients work synergistically for a greater effect, and will both exfoliate follicle walls and calm oil secretions. A clay-type mask with added sulfur or benzoyl peroxide twice weekly can lift surface oils and debris while minimizing blemishes.

I think it's better to use ordinary powder especially if your skin is too sensitive...

Avoid oily foods and sleeping late at night because an oily skin may cause pimples... Prevention is better than Cure, always remember that.

I think it depends on the person... So if you're really dedicated to make your skin oil-free, you must avoid eating oily foods.... But if you're not, I think that it will be a waste of money for you to spend buying beauty products...

I think oily skin can be helped a number of ways (speaking from experience!)
1. Eat well and stay hydrated. If your skin is dehydrated it will be more prone to oily-ness.
2. Use a good product - I found that using gentle (admittedly more expensive) cleansers helped my skin - I suppose they strip less of the natural oil away. At the same time ensure you are using enough moisturiser...I think it's natural to put less on if you think you have oily skin, but again your skin will only react if it needs moisture by producing oil.
3. Go for regular facials. Deep cleansing, massaging and moisture provided by regular facials has had an enormous effect on my skin. My oily-ness has definitely reduced.
good luck!
