I am an up in coming fashion designer and I thought I could use some advice for a concept of a women's line I'm working on. I basically would like to know everyone's general thoughts toward the line I'm planning on starting.

Here is what I have in mind so far:

1. My line will focus on evoking a certain feeling upon immediately looking at my designs.

2. My house will be built on elegance, style, beauty and sophistication.

3. I believe people are different and their clothes should reflect that. People have different personalities and even different moods all the time. If a woman is having a bad day, or just wants to feel sexy, I want my clothes to be the only option!!

4. I want my clothes to give people goosebumbs!!

5. To sum this all up, my line will make people feel loved, worthy, and beautiful. It will serve as only a reminder of the uniqueness and beauty that already lies within them.

When giving any comments on what you think about my vision so far, keep in mind that I am a beginning designer. So EVERTHING about starting a fashion line is new to me.

hi, i think that you've got a great start there...but i would like to know if you have a particular style in mind that your going to be working with or are you going to be doing a bit of each style...(randomly)? :D

This will be my first attempt at a collection. For my first collection my inspiration will be from th 60's with a more modern twist. In particular, I like the clothing in the move "My Fair Lady." The Ascot horse racing scene in particular. The clothes that everyone was wearing gave me a lot of ideas as far as cut, colors, and materials. I'm still in the process of drawing sketches for my first designs, but that is where my main influence is coming from.

As far as what I will bring to the table in general, I want to mainly use unique quality fabrics (ie. blends from Africa/India) and prints to begin with. Of course when I actually begin to manufacture and sell my clothing things could change, but this is what I have in mind so far.

Thanks again for your response!!

Missy,

I think your ideas are terrific - particularly the focus on quality and individuality - now I think you need to start to 'hone in' on specifics. And share them, of course, cause it'll be fun! For instance - the clothes in the Ascot scene are very eye-catching, that's what they're designed for. How would you adapt that to the modern woman today? She wants some pizzazz but also, I think, comfort and practicality - washable vs. need to dry-clean..... not wrinkling....... flattering....... you know, all the good stuff!

Also check out the styles of hats and fascinators aimed at the Ascot market on the following website, for inspiration:

Ascot Hats (http://www.ascothats4u.co.uk)

They are building a range of Milliners and I think you may find it useful to look at the current styles?
