I dont think that i will ever do this, the japanese kimono is their traditional clothes, could be wear for carnivals or some kinda party but not for real working life, it wont be comfortable for us too..

its like me telling you that what about you wear the black gown and headcover and go to work, i will do it cuz this is my traditional clothes and everyone wears it, and we dont know how to go out in our country without it, this is something that we got used to it, but other wont accept it..same goes for every country that got different culture..

the kimono is an art, i've read books about it, and not anyone can wear it, its hard to even dress it or walk with it, it got a certain tie and cetain movement to to able to know how to move properly..

but its a very interesting outfit and one that i respect most..

No .. I don't think that I would do that, but if I went to Japan I maybe would. Kimono's aren't really what I'm into. :D

I own a full kimono, but I wouldn't wear it outdoors, day-to-day.

I also own an hakama/kimono outfit, which I wear around the house if I'm feeling particularly ronin.

Kimonos are an area of my Japanese studies that I've just begun to research into.

Kimonos look very elegant .. but they do take a bit to put on and such, and they're not as comfortable as they might seem.

no, kimonos are only for formal occasions of celebration. They would look strange otherwise.

I would love to try a traditional kimono on sometime, I am enthralled with them, and always have been. I love kimono "inspired" clothes and jewelry for everyday wear, the designs are so intricate, they make great accent pieces.

I think they're beautiful! I don't know if I would personally wear one though- I think it would have to be somewhere fancy, and you would have to do it in a way that doesn't look too costumey.

Kimonos are really trendy, especially when worn in some occassions.

Hmm, i know we'd be killing the idea of tradition but if say the kimono was altered to be more fitting for everyday wear then i dont see why i wouldnt wear them. Like those dresses shown earlier but more fancy?
I'd think they'd be a big hit :)

Why should'nt peeps where national costume outside their homeland.
More people should do it. I love wearing lederhose and I'm not even German or Austrian.
It also defines that person proudly.

A traditional kimono may seem strange for most westerners to wear as an every day item or even on special occasions. Generally the attitude is "you think you're Japanese or something?". I love Japanese culture and have found items to wear everyday in that style such as kimono fabric purses,
Etsy :: Vintage Kimono Fabric Purse (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5677611)
and modern origami jewelry
Neogami, a first for jewellery! (http://www.neogami.com)
maybe try changing the "traditional" part and you'd be sure to have an item westerners will respond positivley to.

a have a slightly shorter kimono which i use as a dressing gown in the summer. i wouldn't wear it out, though, as they get annoying sometimes when they don't stay tied.

I think Kimono's are great thing to wear it depends on the Kimono's style and who is wearing it! ;)

I don't agree with you psylocke! ;) Some japanese prefer wearing trendy kimono's outside there houses and even out the country. Like what I've said it depends on the style and the one wearing it! he.. he..:D

I think they are beautiful! I wear several kimono-inspired dresses and tops and people always want to know where I got them. Here is a pic of one of my tops. The dresses are really pretty-I'll try to take pics later.

In my opinion, Kimono is the most creative and traditional clothings around the world, eventhough it seemed convectional. Somehow these days, designers are very fond of it and tried " modifying " into a kimono top which gives a living feeling as it brings back the japanese tradition. It looked very elegant with a pair of jeans and heels. Gorgeous.....;)

Traditional kimonos are beautiful (especially when decorated), but best saved for special occasions-at least in the U.S. Now, if I were living in Japan, I'd definitely wear one on a daily basis whenever possible. Until then, I'll stick to kimono-style tops.
