How would you apply your foundation..?
Use a sponge or your finger tips.
What would make sense is that if you use your finger tips , you would have warmth and oil on the tips off your fingers which could make it easier to smooth your foundation along your face , making sure your hands are clean of course!.
As for using the sponge you would probably apply more foundation to your skin making it a lot thinker on your face and there is also a hygiene problem if you don't wash your sponges.
I think there would be a lot of difference between the both when you apply a brush of powder to finish it all off.
Whats your comment on this.

i use the makeup sponge, cause i dont like getting oily foundation on my fingers... and for the sponge getting dirty i understand that but thats why when you buy them there mostly in a pack which are like 3 bucks the most for 20 of em and you can also wash your sponge with warm water and soap if you wanted to.. and im not quite sure about applying more, cause i mean i apply as much as if i was to use my finger.... cause the makeup sponge is not like a regular sponge were it absorbs all the liquids

The best way to apply foundation is with your finger tips in an outward motion onto your face. If you do use sponges use a fresh one every time you appy or less you will be spreading bacteria on your face. Tyra Banks did a show about the parsites that live in your make up case and it was GROSS!!! Wash your hands before you apply make up to decrease the chance of infections.

Makeup bags contain products that are used often and can become a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. Dermatologists say a messy makeup kit can lead to infection, allergic reaction, and even acne. The first step to ensure makeup looks great and skin stays acne-free are clean tools. So, keep these tips in mind to avoid any potential irritations that may occur with dirty brushes and products.
You can't "clean" makeup, only the brushes. Wash your brushes weekly with a mild dish detergent or a specially formulated cleanser. Make sure they are completely dry before putting them away. Use one-use items like Q-tips or disposable sponges. Store makeup in a cool dry spot away from sunlight.
Now that your tools are clean, it’s time to look at the products you’re putting on your face. There is a limit to how much makeup you can use at any given time and makeup does go bad, so don’t buy more than you need. Don't share your makeup if you don't want to share germs. Bacteria can be found in used makeup, including staph, yeast and fungal infections. Mascara should be at the top of the “DO NOT SHARE†list as conjunctivitis (pink eye) is fairly contagious and viruses like herpes can be spread through shared lipstick.
General Shelf Life of Makeup
Mascara: Mascara lasts 3-6 months and is the most prone of all makeup to harbor bacteria because the wand is constantly being dipped. A general rule is anything that is a liquid has a shorter life.
Concealer: Has a life of about 18 months due to emulsion (the ingredients will begin to separate). Also, remember you’re generally using concealer to cover blemishes, which can be more sensitive and prone to infection than other parts of your face.
Liquid Foundation: You should never use liquid foundation after more than one year. Always use a sponge, and not your germ-laden fingers! If the foundation separates or smells bad, throw it out.
Loose Powder: This item can last for years.
Eye Shadow: Lasts 12-18 months if it is a cream, 2 years if it’s a powder.
Lip Pencil: Can last 3 years due to the wood and wax. Remember to sharpen and cover between uses.
Lipstick: Can hold up for 2-3 years, but if there is a color change or rancid smell, throw it out.
Lip gloss: Don’t keep more than 18 months due to a different formulation chemical composition and the same dipping problem as mascara.

Just personal views...
I think using sponge or finger mainly depends on personal habits? I suggest using the one that you're more familiar with, that makes your makeup process more happy, right?
I have a little bit knowledge on makeup, and using sponge or finger to achieve best finish actually depends on the texture of foundation, the texture of sponge and you skin type. For example, if the foundation is thick and sticky, some sponges may cause it clumpy or amass unevenly over the face, then finger tip is preferred; however, applying less foundation and using low density but more absorbing sponges may avoid this problem and leads to a better finish. Another example: if the foundation is a bit oily and your finger tips are too warm, the finish may not be so good at all. Perhaps asking advice on forums or asking the sales assistants for a particular foundation can help to choose whether using finger tips or sponges?
And a suggestion: generally making the sponge a little bit wet (with no dripping water) can have a better result than completely dry sponge; of course, as some of you pointed out earlier, hygiene problem must be considered: try to use new sponges or washed sponges every time.

I use my fingers when putting on liquid foundation. I just find it easier to blend in and put on evenly. But when I use my compact on top of that I use a sponge.

[color=indigo][color=indigo]The best result when applying foundation is to use a foundation brush. When you use you fingertips, it doesn't really give u the chance to blend the edges. Foundation sponges tend to absorb the foundation and you will run out of your foundation alot quicker than u wish and can sometimes look very thick and streaky when applied. So when you use a good, real hair or synthetic hair foundation brush, you can blend the edges and the brush gives a neater finish to the face leaving your foundation looking flawless. But I suppose its all down to what works for you best
Good luck.
