I don't generally keep up with "what's hot" as far as jewelry is concerned. I'm recently engaged, but without a ring, specifically because my fiance and I would like to pick out our rings together. Does anyone know what seems to be the rage in ladies engagement rings these days?

Give or take 2-3 mo. of you fiance salary is the calculation commonly used. Not always easy to meet budget, in my case I went with a platinum setting, 1.42 ct princess cut in a solitare setting. I think it cost me somewhere between 11-12k.
I wouldnt worry about whats in right now. You will have the ring for life so no matter which one you choose it has to be one YOU love and will always be happy with :)

Exactly! A good idea as well is the next time both of you are at the mall stop in to one of the local jewelry stores and subtly point out settings, styles, cuts and metals you like. That's what I did with my wife and it gave me a basis to go with, funny enough I had her ring made the following week and pop'd the question 6 mo's later!

You know there are many different insights on this. My opinion is that why do what everyone else is doing? No woman needs to have a 15 k + ring to get married and be happy do they? As long as it is something that you like. And if you are truly in love you cant put money on love. Just my thoughts. My wedding ring wasnt very expensive but Im ok with that because I love my husband to death. And I dont need 15k on my finger to say or show that. =)

Ashelia, I would look for what appeals to YOU. Trends are going to come and go. Your ring is something that you will be wearing when the two of you are age 70.
When my husband and I decided to get married, he wanted me to decide which ring I wanted. When we were shopping, I noticed that the "vintage" look was really a hot trend. It seemed that many of the styles had either an Art Deco or Victorian look. I really like the concept, but I found most of them to be a bit too much from a visual perspective.
I think that if you trust your instincts and avoid listening to the "this is what is hot" speech from the jewelry salesman, you'll find the piece that is right for you.
Good luck and I hope you find your perfect ring.
Pinksaphire, I agree with you. My ring was only in the $2500 range and I LOVE IT. It's a late Victorian vintage piece and more elegant then most of the rings that I looked at in the local jewelry stores. To me, it is absolutely priceless.

Definitely go for something timeless, a design that will last and a ring that fits your budget. If you're going for diamonds or other gemstones, you can always "upgrade" to larger size when you can afford to. I have a brilliant (round) 1.2 ct diamond 4 claw set in a platinum band. similar one here: Platinum Diamond Single Stone Ring (http://www.pomeroi.co.uk/jewellery/rings/diamond/59-platinum-diamond-single-stone-ring.cfm). I think its non-fussy design is timeless...

Engagement ring is, as we all know, a depiction of Love and Commitment. So whatever it may be, you are bound to like. Now as a celebration of your love it is important that you feel good about your ring.
Diamond being the trend of the season and for that matter for all seasons is usually a good choice for your ring. WHITE is the vogue. So you can go in for a Platinum setting or a white gold setting if platinum doesn't fall within budget. Also bold designs are in fashion.
What you can do Ashelia is that check out some jewelry sites so you know what is it that is being sold the most to get a clear picture.

Amazing custom work for Rings is done by Toronto's top jewelry designer Romika Johar. Her company Romika Jewels guarantees the lowest price for diamonds in the world. They can beat any price. They actually cut and polish their own diamonds. My cousin bought a ring recently fom Romika Jewels for $1350 which other stores were charging atleast $1700. Check their website RomikaJewels.com

It is not the latest trend that you have to look out for while picking up your ring. You are going to be wearing that ring for a long time from now on and the trend will keep changing. In fact, there are a few other factors that are to be kept in mind while getting your enagagement ring. It is your taste, style and understanding what will suit your hand that you have to be careful about. By taste i mean the kind of jewelry that you like - for eg: do you often buy silver colored jewelry? If so, then a yellow color engagement ring will not go with your regular wear jewelry. Similarly your style! And last but not least is understanding what will suit your hand! The shape and design of the ring should complement your hand! For instance, oval and marquise go well on short fingers while long fingers carry the princess cut better. Also a delicate design is what will suit small hands with short fingers and bold designs complement long fingers.

I happen to be very fond of the idea of colored stones for engagement rings, and I know that they are getting more popular if my business is any reliable barometer. I have had many requests lately for pink and blue sapphires for that very purpose. I have also had some requests for ruby that would be used as an engagement ring.
Of these stones, the most popular is pink sapphire and it seems to be used most often among retailers that I deal with in Singapore. But Ireland and Sweden are in love with gemstones as well and perhaps the end purpose is not always revealed by my customers.
Judging by the women with whom I have spoken about their colored stone engagement ring, I would say that they tend to have very strong self-esteem and are in touch with what they want. They are women with an opinion and not the "me too" kind of woman. Also, some of their budgets are very large and surely they could have saved money by buying a diamond over a carat with very high clarity and color.
There is also some talk in the trade of the coming boom in China's colored stone business. Whether that materializes I don't know and I don't see it but I do very little business with them. I was not surprised to see European women buying color, but Singapore? That surprised me. There is always more to learn in this business.

I donīt think i REALLY important, itīs more like a formality like a wedding.
I personally, would LOVE to have a colored engagement ring, one of my favorite colors is purple, so Iīve thinking A LOT about amethyst with white gold, or maybe an onyx with titanum since I love dark colors as well, Iīm not really your fancy type of gal, so........ what do you guys think?
