The New York Times just published an article on "Uncruel Fashion." It seems the younger generation and the fashion world are becoming more aware of what they are putting on their bodies. I think cruelty-free fashion is an awesome trend and hope it continues to gain momentum. BTW, they also mentioned my blog in the article. You can access a link to the article from my blog listed in my signature. My little 2 seconds of fame is listed on page 2 of the article.

Vegan fashion is anything that is fashionable and doesn't use leather, suede, wool, silk, and any other animal product. It can be extremely difficult to find fab boots and shoes that aren't leather or suede, but it is entirely possible. Though I try to stay away from PVC as much as possible because of damage caused to the environment. Stell McCartney makes some fabulous shoes at of canvas, satin, velvet and other fabrics.
It is all about maintaining a commitment to a cruelty-free lifestyle, vegan eating and clothing, but still being able to dress feminine and fashionable.

hey there, i just caught this post..and i thought i would add a little tid-bit since all of my designs are done in a vegan -fashion -forward style. ..i think its just fabulous to know that more designers and companies are going in this direction. whether its for environmental reasons or just because ..not everything has to be leather or of an animal to be amazing. i myself am not totally vegan, i do enjoy seafood, fish and chicken..but i prefer to keep my money making materials in the -man made realm-, as opposed to in the -painful to critters realm-. so i just wanted to send a wink to these others who are doing it as well. xoxox ciao! ....& for a little example, you may check out my designs & the fabrics page of my site.

I think it's about time. I'm vegetarian myself, and I think if people knew the truth they would absolutely support cruelty free fashion.
Clothing can be just as beautiful, and not made from animals.

Vegan Fashion Blog ~ About Us (http://www.veganfashionblog.com/aboutus.html). Check out the link for Uncruel Beauty. You have to sign up for The NY Times to view full article now because it has been archived. But this was very cool indeed.

there's also fairtrade fashion, which is becoming increasingly popular.
zara have did a line of 100% organic cotton t-shirts, and h&m have always tried hard to use organic, fairtrade fabrics as much as possible. they're abot to open a full range of garments made from this ethical, comfortable material. buy, buy, buy!

i think it's great that people are becoming more socially conscious about the environment and protecting it (especially animals). going completely vegan (in terms of clothing) definitely seems like it takes a big commitment, but i try to do my little part by never wearing fur.

Do you have to be a vegan if you subscribe to vegan fashion? If not, why not? Personally I do my best not to buy leather, etc. But I find to many hypocrits.

It would be great to see more vegan fashion in the shops. I'm vegetarian but I wear leather, the problem is I hate to buy shoes online or from a catalog because sizes tend to vary so much.

What I can't understand is why there seems to be so much fur being worn by celebs. It didn't seem that long ago that fur was definite no no.
