SLIPKNOT are to release their third studio album in May.
The currently untitled album, has taken six months to record, and will be the first the band have produced without Ross Robinson, instead choosing Rick Rubin for their latest venture.
"Where Ross is with you all the time, Rick just leaves you to your own devices, then comes in, takes a listen to things, and says 'You're going the right way,' or 'Why don't you try this?'" said vocalist Corey Taylor to Billboard . "But at the end of the day, they're both going for the vibe, what people are going to feel. A good producer is a fan of music, and knows what people are going to feel."
The album sees the band taking on a slightly different sound under Rubin's guidance. "People are either going to love this or hate it," explained Corey. "Lo and behold, we had some really good slow stuff, and some good three-part harmonies in us. But at the same time, we've still got the metal, the same double bass and percussion, the same crazy noises. Right now, it's probably the best thing I've ever heard."

the new sound is meant to be a lot different from previous slipknot styles they are going to be using timpanies and moog keyboards and corey using his voice in a more melodic fashion.
when asked joey jordison compared the new sound to "radiohead tapping on slayer"
due out 25th may through roadrunner yet to be titled although song names have been leaked but with the knot you never know!

yup i think it should be good as they said IOWA was a brutal record a venting process but rick rubin said to corey "you can acheive more with a wisper than a scream".
he took this very seriously and has explored more melodic sounds which he has previousley touched upon both with knot and stonesour.
as for the music the precussion section (chris and shawn 3+6) its set to be very interesting new techniques as well as new equipment . the best bet is to expect anything because one of slipknot earliest forays into custom percussion was to have chris drink 2 litres of water he then lay down and shawn and joey hit him on the stomach with mallets which they recorded.
should be fun lol !!

Joeykid

Twisted_rock

and why arent they original dare i ask who else do they sound like?
i agree you see styles that other bands use but name me another band that use thrash, speed, heavyand black metal alongside jungle, dance, jazz and disco as well as using true rock melodies and vocals as well as samples!
and i mean one band not bands that do some of these styles i mean all at once as the knot do !

i was reffering to thier style only.
ur right as for the music but you gotta see past the childish act first and i havnt managed to.

but the original point of the boiler suits and masks was NOT to take away from the music but to focus on it and not the group but due to fame its all some people can see!
shame too!

hmm yeah i see what your saying, this is nothing against you what i saw, just the band but think about it for a second:
"but the original point of the boiler suits and masks was NOT to take away from the music" how?
seriously, how can dressing like that make you follow the music more? i dont understand that, YES it draws you into the band but then its a love or hate thing, you see them and think they're gimps and walk off right away or you like em
and the majority called them gimps and walked away
addmitidly alot more people liked them 2 years ago but i think some just saw em as something to like till something better came along if you catch my drift..

you ansewered your own question slipknot are about extremes they want absolute devotion or to elicit some deep hatred either way you havent ignored them and the masks were cos after concert they would go into the audience without them and talk abo shows get gen feedback without fans knowing
