slipknot never really impressed me whilst old metallica was one of the best bands ever. classics such as fade to black, ride the lightning, master of puppets, blackended, the four horseman, seek and destroy are among the top metal songs of all time. HOWEVER
ever since cliff burton died they became more of media stars than metal stars. and after the last record i must say that their next record will determine their fate. will they be remembered as sellouts like most of 80's hair and glam metal bands or will they be remembered as one of metal's greatest its all up to next album. st anger made a lot of angry fans and i think they wont take another bull**** album well

as for slipknot.......they still have to do a lot of work, write much good stuff before you could even put them in same sentance with metallica

i got to listen to some St. Anger songs sometime, i heard it went to #2 on the charts though........

although i agree with the majority of your statment mariner, i do think that slipkjnot in their own way deserve credit. if for no other reason than giving the genre of music they are in a kick up the behind when it was needed. at the time the were very unique and individual in much the same way that metallica were. i think the real test is a time thing . time will tell lol

I am a big Metallica fan so my opinion is probably biased, but for me it is very hard to compare these two artists. One has been around for ages and has contributed far more to the genre than the other ever will with gimicky stage outfits.

I couldn't agree more, Joey is actually a damn good singer I don't know why the don't use that more often,
