View Full Version : Site ideas for Mutton to Critique

Scott and I were throwing around some ideas for the design of the site, and this is what we came up with.

1. What if we had someone design a mock cover page for the magazine every month? It would be a picture-based cover, with article teasers on it (these could be links to the article, potentially), as well as a teaser for the table of contents, which you could click and go to the table of contents. It would be like a cover against a white background, so you go to independent clauses.com and you see BAM this month's cover. Just one more step towards becoming a real magazine.

2a. Since the table of contents is getting so long, it puts the ads way at the bottom of the page. We'd like to try to get ads more visible. We could try putting them at the top of the page, above or below IndependentClauses (above might be best).

2b. Also in an attempt to get ads more visible, we thought about this - potentially making tabs within the site, one for CD reviews, the other for features, and splitting the table of contents up that way. Like firefox tabbing, at the tob of the page - one says features, the other says CD reviews. That way, the ads would be more visible, as the table of contents would be half as long for both pages.

We don't know how much coding is involved in all of this - we just came up with the ideas. If you think these things are viable, tell us so and we'll rejoice - if not, tell us what's wrong with them and we'll keep brainstorming with that new knowledge of what's not possible. Thanks for all you do....you're awesome.

I also e-mailed this to you.

I'll reply here only.

1. Magazine Cover: Sure, if you supply me with the images, I can make the teasers and the items in the table of contents link to their articles. Or, if there's no one to make these images, I can compile them from the background image/s, presumably of the interviewed artist or CD covers and teaser captions, won't be very professional.

2a. I'll put the current ad at the top. If there are more ads you would like to add, to rotate between, let me know.

2b. Tabs are feasible. But which tab shows up first? Judging from past issues, the table of contents for album reviews would be ~two times higher than the table of contents for feature articles.

1. I'll get on making the magazine cover for next month.

2a. Thanks.

2b. I'll have to talk to scott about which tab should go first. THat's a good question.

I e-mailed you the entire March edition in a zip file. I was way behind this month, thanks to some unavoidable circumstances, but I got the thing done. If you could get it up as soon as possible, that would be awesome.

Again, thanks for all you do. You're a big part of making us look good and even keep running. Talk to you soon -
