so i recently downloaded liquid swords, by gza, and i must say, it is my favourite out of all the wu-tang solo albums that i have thus far heard.
the first time i played it, i thought, okay, the beats are kind of lacking, but the rapping is excellent and it is obviously more of a vocal album than a musical masterpiece.
but a friend of mine who encouraged me to listen to it in the first place insisted that i was an idiot, and he played 4th chamber for me.
i srsly do not understand how i didn't like it. i've re-listened to the album, and the beats are quite fucking good. 4th chamber, i think, is my favourite song, with liquid swords coming in a close second. the clip from shogun assassin at the beginning is scary, holy crap.
the entire album is a lot darker than i was expecting. the beats are simple and blunt sounding, but they're still quite good, as the rza usually makes things end up; and gza's voice is just fucking excellent.
odb is (was) probably the best vocalist out of them all, with ghostface in second, and gza coming in third, i'd say.
also, his lyrics are obviously better than the rest. his lines are so fucking good, and, magically, intelligent. i was shocked (!) at a biblical reference in 4th chamber, and labels is just one big punch in the face to major record labels everywhere.
guests do not disappoint. i love rza's line "ninja skill in the building, no time to grab your gun they already got your wife and children" in 4th chamber.
agree/disagree.
