Hip Hop Is Dead?

So w/ the new albums out by Nas and Jay-z talking about hip hop being dead a lot of rappers (Lil Wayne, and Young Jeezy for example) are taking a lot of offense, and arguing the opposite case.

What do you guys think? Is (commercial) Hip Hop dead, or just changing direction?

I think it is dead... I mean most/all commercial rap has no meaning, it's just yelling about "bitches", bling, and cars.

There is a lot of good underground/non-mainstream hip hop though such as Common, Talib Kweli, K-os, The Roots, to name a few.

I guess it is changing directions and some people must like it for it to be gaining popularity... it's kind of sad that people actually like that crap though.

i think that its dying but not dead.

there some popular artists like 50 cent, Eminem, Jay-Z, etc. that can actually make good music.

however, then you get Dem Franchize Boyz or however you spell it, all of the "Lil Whatevers" etc etc that write the really popular songs that are just offensive, take no talent whatsoever, and should not even be called music.

it's the less mainstream rap that's the good stuff, and also a lot of the older stuff


it just seems today that all of the rap songs are the same with different tempos, some words switched around, and some annoying high pitched beeping in the background.
