I just saw two different advertisements for an imitation baroque violin. It was something $5,957.00 which I can't afford, but it looks like a really sweet instrument. I had never seen a white violin with a red fingerboard, and pegs. The other looked closer to a normal violin. I would love to hear how one of these instruments sounds, and maybe own one someday. I always like playing a violin that's a bit different. My great-grandmother's instrument that I inherreted has a longer neck that most violins, so it's a bit of a challenge. Oh, well! I'll have to just dream about that Baroque instrument. Do any of you know how it compares to a modern violin?

Well, I looked up the baroque violin online, and it is played to the front of a person as opposed to being played off to one side like the modern violin is. Also, it is tuned to a different pitch. There are only a few universities that actually offer classes for it. You have to learn a completely new form of holding your hand in order to play it. It sounded neat, but very expensive. I think I'll stick to modern violin rather than get retrained for baroque for right now. Maybe someday I'll learn it though. It's a fascinating instrument.
I did a bit of reading whne you first posted this and pretty much came cross the same information you just posted.

That's some of the same websites I found. If I can refind the others I found, I'll post them. Here's a few:

The last one lists a much lower price than the first violin I found.
