There is a genre of metal that I hella love. I don't know if there's an actual term for it, but I call it epic metal. The kind of metal that comes equipped with an orchestra and/or choir in the background, to help emphasize the awesomeness of it all. However, everyone I've ever talked to about it can't give me the names of specific artists. Can anyone point me in the right direction, so as I can turn the crush I have on this genre into a loving relationship?

Also, feel free to comment on if I'm crazy for liking it. I don't even know if it's a genre or not, much less any of the leaders of it, and I've never met anyone else who loves it the way I do. Please help :)

Its more along the lines of Progressive metal.

It can also be called Symphonic or Epic metal too, sometimes.

Some bands you might want to check out are Symphony X, Dream Theater, and Rage. Rage I'm not fond of, and although they are more along the lines of "classic" heavy metal I know they use some orchestrational pieces in their music.

You might like some Queensryche too if you gave them a listen. Try their first self-titled EP.

My favorite Symphony X album is The Odyssey. That one is good too!

I Can Revive Him With My Bare Hands by Still Remains may have some I think. And the beginning of Shark Ethic by Most Precious Blood too. But that's as close as I can think of.

Thanks for the help you guys, I've been able to find a lot of great stuff :). In my search I also came across a band called Galneryus which I really, really like.

Arcturus may be of your liking. Turisas - Battle Metal, too. There are a lot of these epic metal bands out of Italy that i wouldn't vouch for. Ayreon is interesting, but possesses a certain gaiety that tends to turn off many listeners.

A large portion of power metal bands employ the use of choirs/orchestras and epic sound. Blind Guardian and Rhapsody come to mind immediately. Check out those two and if you like them you'll pretty much like every power metal band... Galneryus are generally considered power metal.
