Okay, this is a stimulator topic. I'm asking that you just throw down a list of all the acoustic artists you listen to, and hopefully that'll start some conversation. Without further adeiu:

Jose Gonzalez
Damien Jurado
Damien Rice
Pedro the Lion
Ben Folds
Magnetic Fields/Stephen Merritt/The 6ths
Jules Shear
Old Dashboard Confessional
Nick Drake
(some) Elliot Smith
Turin Brakes
Alexi Murdoch
The Decemberists

that's just some....throw down your own lists and let's see what you all have.

Jack Johnson
Elliot Smith
Wilco (Jeff Tweedy)
Bright Eyes (a little bit)
Johnny Cash (a little bit)

and I'm guessing that there is a lot more that I'm missing that I'm just not thinking of as Acoustic

I've heard of Nick Drake, whats one of his popular songs?

I'm a big fan of Johhny Cash. As ashamed as I am to admit it, I'm rather fond of some John Mayer as well.

Others include:
*Paco De Lucia*(friggin awesome), Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, Jack Johnson, and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head.

If Al Di Meola and John Mclaughlin count as acoustic you can count me in there as well

They're not always acoustic, but they have done some work with Paco De Lucia where they were all acoustic, and they were fantastic. I think they've put out three or so albums as an acoustic guitar trio. You should really check it out.

Paco De Lucia has a bunch of CDs out with him soloing, or playing with various ensembles. His music is hard to find samples of online but this website has a few clips of him.

http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/1192/sounds.html

He's good on everything, but I prefer more recent works of his, just because he doesn't play with many singers anymore. The first few tracks at this site have vocals, but most of the rest are plain acoustic.

Listening to some Paco now....this is pretty cool stuff. Larry G has been mysteriously absent lately- I'd like to know what he thinks about Paco. He seems to know something about classical guitaring.

I do like this stuff- but I'm not sure If I'd buy a disc of it. At least, not at the moment. I never rule anything out, because I've said I'd never listen to bands that I now own whole albums of. Oh the ironies.

I havent heard a lot of them but from what I have heard I liked

I'd like to add to my list: Pico Vs. Island Trees, if you havent heard of them check 'em out: http://myspace.com/pico (I'm pretty sure they're considered Acoustic)

Also, I got the Nick Drake album you recommended IC and listened to it a bit, it sounds good, I'll let you know what I really like when I get a chance to listen to it all

Listening to Pico now...pretty cool stuff. Reminds me of a chilled-out "Is This It?"-era Strokes in the drumming style. I like the guitarwork...and the vocals are okay. Cool stuff.

Oh man....I've been listening to Mountain Goats a LOT this year.

I like "Sunset Tree" more than I like "Get Lonely", but there are still great songs on both of them.

Favorites: "Up the Wolves", "Dance Music", "Woke Up New", "In Corolla"
