I was listening my playlist on Itunes and a guy that I hadnt heard in a while was playing.
Jean-Luc Ponty
Amazing artist, I can't believe that I had forgotten about him. He plays electric violin, and some of his songs are just incredible. I am primarily a piano player, so the song A taste for Passion got me involved into his music. Some other good songs include:
Renaissance there is a really cool spanish sounding acoustic guitar solo in the middle
Final Choice part I This entire song is amazing, hard to pick out a certain part.
Some other good jazz artists that I listen to:
Phil Collins Band
These guys are great, I have a live Cd called A Hot night in paris,
They did a great Pick up the pieces
Another really cool song is called Don't Care anymore
I think the reason I like these guys is because of their saxaphone(I play myself), and their instrumentation which is incredible.
Hope you like these bands a much as I do!
I like stuff like Thelonious Monk, and John Coltrane - think I would be interested in this?
I'll check 'em out on allmusic as soon as I get a chance

I've heard of Ponty, but I've never heard his music. The Phil Collins band is pretty cool, even if they are associated with Phil Collins, lol.
As far as jazz goes, I like to call my favorites the Four M's: Monk, Mingus, Miles, and Mahavishnu. Of course, I'm also a big Coltrane fan, as well as Sonny Rollins. I saw him in concert about a month ago. The man is 75 years old, and can barely walk, but he can play the hell out of the sax on a setup I probably would have trouble getting a note out on.

I'm a Count Bassie fan just because he is so much fun to play

Ah yes Mahavishnu Orchestra, absolutely beautiful music and probably my favorite out of all the jazz/fusion bands.
Can't beat 'em

That's what a lot of piano players tell me. I wish I was good enough to play his style on piano, but sadly I am not :(. He's another one of my faves I forgot to mention. I don't know how I forgot. I play some Basie chart or another on average once every three days or so, lol.

You like bebop/hard bop. He's talking about fusion. Two very different things. Of course, if you like fusion, then it might work. Ever heard Weather Report?

Im more of a jazz fusion guy myself..
I did play lead trumpet in a mediocre jazz band all through highschool, we were good at one point, then all the good members graduated and the downward spiral began.
I need to pick up my horn, do some decent practise and join a local outfit.
