how about lyrics?
who here really likes lyrics? I do- but I also know some people who think music would be best off instrumental.
I'm really fond of lyrics by Brand New, Ben Folds, and Counting Crows. anybody else?
Brand New lyrics are great, other than that its just pick and choose for a lot of bands, some lyrics are great and some don't make any sense

Counting Crows lyrics are pretty awesome I have to agree, but I think postal service has excellent lyrics. My all time favorite lyrics are from Do Not Feed the Oyster by stephen malkmus and the jinks. That song is crazy cool.

Postal Service definitely....I should've mentioned them. And Death Cab, as well- Ben Gibbard is quite brilliant with a pen. Although sometimes he gets discredited for being repetitious with death cab....I like it that way, though.

lyrics are a touchy subject with me. great lyrics can make a great band better but bad lyrics don't damn a band and great lyrics can't make a band. i listen to a lot of bands who's lyrics you can not understand but it doesn't matter as much as long as the instruments behind the lyrics are good. i look at lyrics the same way i look at girls' looks. the looks are great as long as their is a great person behind them, if not i couldn't give a damn.
But to answer IC's question i believe Counting Crows has some of the best lyrics (anyone who can get their band's name seamlessly into a song is awesome) and DMB has some of the most meaningful lyrics. but as far as postal service and Death Cab, i find the lyrics too artsy and it really sounds like he's trying to hard. but then again i really don't like Death Cab's intrumentals. tis a viscious circle.

Yeaaah Counting Crows!
and sometimes Gibbard does push his luck a bit- but the strength of most redeems the weakness of some, in my mind.
it's all subjective. =)

it's all subjective. =)
wow, somebody figured out that each person has there own opinion YAAAAAY!
but seriously IC your right, everything about lyrics is subjective

Man I've been listening to Floyd a lot today, and although it's not emo, I just remembered how awesome a lot of their lyrics are
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.
Ashes and diamonds
Foe and friend
We were all equal in the end.
It's off the final cut, but the mood is perfect - everything is just awesome :D

My favorite lyics are by Heroin and pg. 99. Amazingly, (and this goes for the former in particular) their lyics were not entirely preoccupied by failed relationships, which makes most modern bands lyics seem all the more shallow in comparison
