Nick Drake's been having a revival of sorts lately- dead since 1974, his four albums have been showing up on a lot of ipods, movie soundtracks, and commercials (boo.) lately. Has anybody else been listening to his beautiful acoustic music? It's pretty freaking sweet- his voice is truly amazing, and his style of guitar playing is unlike any I've ever heard before. His sound is truly beautiful, and it's impossible to put down.
I heard him and Elliot Smith at the same time, and I definitely like Drake more- his stuff just keeps on being awesome, whereas elliot's is all....downer after a while.
anyone else?

Ah, yes, Nick Drake. I'm a fan of his as well. Haven't listened to all of his albums, just Pink Moon and Five Leaves Left, but I like what I have heard.
Though maybe I'm just a sucker for Elliott Smith, I still prefer Smith of Drake, but that's just me. :)

i too enjoy the beautiful voice and sweet rythms of mr. drake, and have noticed he's having a bit of a "comeback". i was in barnes & noble the other day browsing through their music and saw an entire display with all of his cd's- sort of caught me offguard.
favorite song??

Definitely "Pink Moon" or "Ride". I like how they all blend together so perfectly, though- he sets a great mood.
Yep, he actually had a couple of singles reach up on the British Pop Charts not too long ago- you can read about it here on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Drake . Pretty interesting stuff.

Wikipedia is taking over the internet. That was interesting. I'm going to be ordering some albums online and I want to hear some more Nick Drake. Any recommendations?

My favorite is "Pink Moon". I haven't heard much else, but it's supposedly his most critically acclaimed, so you can't go too far wrong. I'd go for one of his albums though- not for an anthology. He was really, really good at capturing moods through his albums, and I don't know how well an anthology would be able to do that. That was part of the appeal to mr. drake- he knew how to orchestrate everything so well.

"comeback" haha funny way of putting it, he's just getting more and more well known as the years pass, which is a blessing cause he was very unknown during his lifetime and after.
I love Nick and Elliott both, and to be honest Nick's music can be just as depressing. nick has this elegant beauty to his songs that give it more depth and escapism.
Nick is probably my top favorite solo artist. He doesnt need a band with him, just him and guitar and you've got everything you need.
