Anyone a big fan of the late Elliott Smith? I'm a big fan. Not as big as some other people I know out there, but I enjoy his work immensely.
I came across Elliott Smith through a MySpace profile (a friend of mine had his music in the background) in late 2003 or early 2004. Sometime around there. I was so mesmerized by his voice, his overall performance, and wonderful lyrics. Normally, if I like a song, I write down a few of the lyrics and search for it another time, but with Elliott Smith, I went to work right away.
And thank goodness I found out who it was. I love his work. It's just a shame that I didn't find out about him several years before so I could have atleast attempted to see him live.
So, do you like Elliott Smith? When and how did you come across him?

Heh, its funny I just got into this guy a few weeks ago.. I've been listening to his self titled album non-stop since then and I've been getting his others in the process.
His music is just so amazing, the mixture between his dark sound and the acoustic guitar is flawless and undescribably good.

Never been an avid listener, but now I'm going to go sample some of his music.

I have found myself to be a fan of Elliot Smith quite recently actually. A good friend of mine had been listening to him a lot and I just fell in love with his music. I found his music to be mesmerizing and even entrancing which I liked. His music is so easy to the ear and you can do nothing else but listen. Overall I believe that Elliot Smith is excellent and everyone should check him out.

Elliot was one of those artists that I listen to their albums and I just stand in awe. It's just amazing how he could force so much into so little. Everything sounded amazing when he did it- those whispering vocals, the uniquely elliot guitar style (never heard anyone else do it right). Eerie. I love his s/t album, as well as a bunch of other tracks from his repertoire. My favorite is "Needle in the Hay" or "Christian Brothers". Good times.
I still maintain that he was stabbed and did not commit suicide. But that's just me.

I really liked Needle in the Hay but didn't discover more until long after he passed away. I've downloaded some bootlegs to try to make up for it; in the later shows it's sad to listen to him slur his way with the crowd when he's not singing in that angelic vulnerable expressive voice.

Either/Or is possibly one of my favorite albums. I love the sheer simplicity of his work. Just the guitar and the guy and not a whole lot of fancy effects and then his lyrics add a whole new dimension to whatever chords he might be playing. I didn't know that "Angeles" was featured in the movie Good Will Hunting, but since I noticed that...I've noticed his work in quite a few other movies.

I love his music. He's really taught me that strumming with your thumb can be cool, haha!
I just really enjoy the fact that his music speaks to you yet it's still abstract in a way, so that its open to interpretation but not to the point where its very vague and complex. it's such a shame he's no longer here with us...

I fall in love with a new Smith song all the time- there are just little hidden beauties throughout the albums. Sad he had to take his own life in such a brutal way.

It's sad that everything said about him has to end with "bummer that he's dead."
it seems all the best ones leave early.

I'm actually a member of a forum dedicated to just Elliott Smith and talking about him.
Yeah you could say I'm a fan, ha.
I have all his albums on vinyl and cd.
Amazing man.

Wow. i just listened to some of his music. i heard about him awhile back, but never really looked into it. Seeing this thread reminded me, so i went out to take a look. I am so glad i took the time, that was so fantastic.
I love Elliott Smith more than I care to even try and explain. I'm not sure as to how exactly I came across his music but it has had a huge effect on me. Absolute love is all I can manage to say. I decided to get my entire back done with an elliott smith inspired tattoo because I think that he's just that great.
